Description: World AIDS Day was founded in 1988 and marks the first ever world health day. December 1st is a day of recognition that brings people together in the fight against HIV. The annual event allows people to show solidarity in support of people living with HIV and to remember those individuals who have passed away from an AIDS-related illness.
The red ribbon is the universal symbol of awareness and support for people living with HIV. Red ribbons can be picked up from our office (8:30 am-4:30 pm) or from our tables at Peter Pond Mall and the Casman Center. Red ribbons will also be available at our gift wrapping table at the Christmas Trade Show at MacDonald Island Park from 1:00-9:00 pm. Donations will be accepted at all tables.
Community members are asked to show their support by wearing red or a red ribbon on December 1st and posting a picture of themselves to our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts using #whyredymm. Several prizes are available to those who post a picture using the event hashtag. Winners will be selected at random.
