ACWB invites artists, arts organizations, and community arts groups on September 18 to Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre for our next Business of the Arts workshop! Join author and crafter Julie Rowe for a lively discussion and make-and-take workshop on how to create and effectively use swag (promotional products) as part of an artist’s marketing plan.

Topics include:

why do we want to give things away for free, and why do people want the free stuff

swag’s role in an artist’s marketing plan

determining your budget

picking the right category of swag for you and what you do

what the promotional companies can do for you

what you can do for yourself

what to do with swag once you have it

Attendees will also create 3 different handmade swag items using their business cards, under Rowe’s facilitation.

Julie Rowe – facilitator

Full-time author and workshop facilitator, Julie Rowe’s first career as a medical lab technologist in Canada took her to the North West Territories and Fort McMurray, Alberta, where she still resides. Julie’s debut novel, Icebound, was released by Carina Press on Nov 14, 2011. Eleven novels and nine anthologies have followed. Her most recent titles are VIABLE THREAT Book #1 and SMOKE & MIRRORS book #2 of the Outbreak Taskforce series. Julie’s articles have appeared in magazines, such as Romantic Times Magazine, Today’s Parent magazine and Canadian Living. Julie facilitates communication workshops at Keyano College in Fort McMurray, and has presented writing workshops at conferences in the United States and Canada.
